"Green Bean", a poem by Claire Henderson

Chew the green beans

Not so green but green-ed

Not so bean but string

Chew the green beans

For the broccoli misses life

With its crack, not chew

Its trudge, not swallow.

The brussel sprouts smell more than

Taste the cheese is not cheese

For it is all sprout

So, then chew

Continue the green beans.

The rest is mush

If not grown from fresh ground

And so even you yourself are poison

If you were to be eaten

And you are

Or you will.

If you misunderstood me

Chew the green beans

To continue growth

Not from ground, from where you are

Now where everything else is

Mush to you, to me,

To string, to bean.

Continue the green beans
